Turkey gets around 20% of its gas via a 11bn cu m/y pipeline from Iran, which shipped 8.3bcm last year. Shipments were halted for the second time in four months on 8 October after an explosion near to Dogubayazit close to the Iran border, said Javad Owji, the managing director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC).
This follows the 3 October halt to shipments on the 16 bcm/y Baku-Tblisi-Erzurum pipeline from Azerbaijan due to a blast near Turkey’s northeastern city of Kars – this pipeline also being hit for the second time in recent months, following a May attack. BP, which operates both the pipeline and Azerbaijan’s giant Shah Deniz field which fuels the route, says flows have now been restored. (CONTINUED - 755 WORDS)
