Finding an alternative oil export route has long been a priority for South Sudan, allowing it to break free from its long-standing dependence on the North for its oil infrastructure. Despite seceding from Sudan in July last year, inheriting around 75% of Sudan’s pre-independence 470,000 b/d output, South Sudan is still highly dependent on the North, through which the only existing pipeline to the Red Sea outlet of Port Sudan runs.
Speaking in the Ugandan capital of Kampala, Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi said it would be more economically viable for South Sudan to pass its pipeline to the Kenyan Port to Lamu through Uganda, as part of a joint venture with the Ugandan government. (CONTINUED - 357 WORDS)
