The attack, thought to be the work of the militant Kurdish Workers Party (PKK), which has been involved in a 28-year rebellion against the Turkish state, is the seventh bombing of the pipeline over the last three years. According to the Turkish Weekly, which cited Iranian sources, attacks on the pipeline from Iran have caused a halt in the flow of Iranian gas for a total of 42 days.
Several days earlier, an explosion occurred on the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline – known also as the South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) – which carries Azeri gas from the Shah Deniz field to Georgia and Turkey. For the second time this year, the Turkish section of the pipeline was bombed on 4 October in the area between Kars and Erzurum. Shipments of Azeri gas resumed on 5 October. (CONTINUED - 705 WORDS)
