Spanish firm Repsol has struck gas with the first well of a five-well drilling campaign on its Southeast Illizi block in southeast Algeria. This holds out the prospect of a southerly extension for Algeria’s newest production heartland.
The Tihalatine South-1 well flowed at 3.7mn cfd at a depth of 1,070ms in the Ordovician shale reservoir. Appraisal work will be carried out by the consortium to assess the size of this discovery. Exploration began in July 2011 with the acquisition of 2D and 3D seismic data. Four further wells are planned by mid-2013. (CONTINUED - 282 WORDS)
