Newly independent South Sudan could restart its oil production before the end of the month, a government spokesman said on 6 November, bringing an end to a near 10-month shut down that severely crippled its nascent economy.
South Sudan, which broke away from Sudan in July last year, took the unprecedented decision to shut down all of its near 350,000 b/d of oil production in January following a long-standing dispute with its neighbor to the north over how much it should pay to export its oil through its territory.
