Despite media reports saying that Israel has engaged with the Palestinian Authority (PA) in talks concerning the development of the offshore Gaza Marine gas field, MEES understands that no progress on this issue has been made. The press cited an Israeli Foreign Ministry document that listed development of Gaza Marine as one of several “significant measures” that had been discussed.
In the document (Report of the Government of Israel to the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee [AHLC]: Measures Taken by Israel in Support of Developing the Palestinian Economy and Socio-Economic Structure) released on 23 September by the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Israeli government said that it had since the start of 2012 begun to discuss with the PA the development of the field.
