Algerian state utility Sonelgaz announced on 16 December that its generating subsidiary SPE has provisionally awarded engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts totaling $4.05bn for six 1.4GW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plants. The total cost of the projects – including CCGT units supplied by US firm General Electric under an earlier contract (MEES, 27 September) – will exceed $5.96bn (see table 1).
The EPC winners are mainly Korean firms. A consortium of Hyundai Engineering and Daewoo International won EPCs for the Bellara and Oumache (Biskra province) projects. Samsung won the Naama and Mostaganem contracts, GS and Daelim won the Kais project, while Spain’s Duro Fulguera was awarded the Djelfa plant. (CONTINUED - 539 WORDS)
