Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical LLC (NSRP), a joint venture involving the international marketing arm of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract on 27 January to a JGC-led consortium for a 200,000 b/d capacity refinery and petrochemicals complex in Vietnam. The $9bn Nghi Son refinery will be Vietnam’s second, and is scheduled for completion by end-2016 and will start commercial operation in mid-2017.
NSRP partners are: Japan’s Idemitsu Kosan (35.1%), Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI – 35.1%), Vietnam Oil and Gas (25.1%) and Japan’s Mitsui Chemicals (4.7%). The EPC contract was awarded to a consortium comprising Japan’s JGC and Chiyoda, France’s Technip and South Korea’s SK and GS, following the issuing of a letter of intent earlier in the month (MEES, 18 January).
