Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) announced on 25 March that contractor Korea Electric Power Corporation (Kepco) has installed the base section of the containment liner for the reactor unit at the Barakah-1 nuclear power plant. The state firm said the modularized steel cylindrical liner will weigh 2,000 tons when completed and will be the inner radiation shield within the reactor containment building.
ENEC said the liner will incorporate 19 separate rings, each 45ms in diameter and 3ms in depth, which are being manufactured off-site. The floor and first two levels of the liner have been installed and welded together on site over the past two months. The remaining liner sections will be fabricated and installed over the next 10 months. ENEC said Kepco is on track to start up the Barakah-1 plant in 2017. (CONTINUED - 539 WORDS)
