Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) has invited companies to submit qualifications for the tendering of an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the UAE’s first waste-to-energy plant. The company announced on 27 February that the plant will have the capacity to generate 100mw of electricity from approximately 1mn tons/year of waste.
The announcement follows the completion of a pre-feasibility study and the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the project in June 2012 with Abu Dhabi’s Center for Waste Management (CWM). TAQA aims to award the EPC contract in the fourth quarter of 2013 with a view to plant start-up in 2016-17. The estimated development cost is $850mn. (CONTINUED - 557 WORDS)
