Kuwait is preparing to expand its LNG import capacity, MEES understands.Media reports recently indicated that the country may install additional LNG import capacity by 2020 that would allow the country to import about 23mn tons/year.
This is a remarkably high number, especially for a country with large under-utilized gas reserves of its own. Such volumes would represent a nearly fourfold increase on current imports of 6mn t/y and would make Kuwait the world’s third largest LNG importer behind Japan and Korea (based on 2012 figures).
