Polymers production capacity in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region reached 23.9mn tons/year in 2012, according to the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA). The association’s new report, GCC Plastics Industry – Facts and Figures 2012, says this represents a 13% capacity increase over 2011.
“Throughout the past five years,” says the report, “the GCC region went through tremendous polymers capacity expansion with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16%.” The largest growth in percentage terms took place in the UAE and Qatar, which registered growth of 20% and 19% respectively over the period.
