Oman is in advanced negotiations with a number of international oil companies (IOCs) looking to secure exploration assets in the sultanate’s upstream sector, an official at Oman’s Ministry of Oil and Gas (MOG) says. Six blocks are set to be awarded, including five offered in licensing rounds early last year.
“These blocks will be awarded soon… We will sign agreements for these six blocks as soon as possible,” MOG director general for petroleum investments Salih al-Anburi told an industry conference in Muscat earlier this month, adding that the target was to finalize the awards by year end. Blocks 51, 54, 55, 58 and 65 were tendered early last year. The sixth to be awarded is as yet unclear. All are onshore (see map). (CONTINUED - 493 WORDS)
