South Sudan has confirmed that it has reached an agreement with Japan’s Toyota Tsusho to build an oil export pipeline through neighboring Kenya which could free it from its long-standing dependence on Sudan for its oil export infrastructure. (The only existing pipeline and terminal through which South Sudan can export its crude to international markets is in Sudan.)
This comes as tensions have escalated between the two former civil war foes just weeks after the South began bringing production at its oilfields back onstream following a near-15 month shutdown. (CONTINUED - 852 WORDS)
