Nuri Berruien, the well-respected Chairman of Libya’s state oil firm, National Oil Corporation (NOC), could retire as early as next month, MEES understands. “Maybe, we shall see,” conceded Libyan Oil Minister, ‘Abd al-Bari al-‘Arusi, on the sidelines of the 31 May OPEC meeting in Vienna.
“Mr Berruien is past retirement age. We extended his term for two years. Now we are talking,” he conceded. Mr Berruien, a long standing Libyan oil veteran who had stints in London heading state oil service firms Teknica and Umm al-Jawaby, spearheaded the post-revolutionary rebirth of Libya’s oil industry.
