The World Bank on 18 July approved the disbursement of $150mn in emergency aid to Jordan to help deal with the influx of Syrian refugees into the kingdom. Jordan has welcomed hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing the Syrian conflict and the sudden increase in population has put immense pressure on its economy and citizens.
World Bank President Jim Yong Kim said that “large numbers of refugees from Syria arrive every day with their lives torn apart and Jordan continues to receive and care for them,” adding that this kind of “generosity needs our support.” (CONTINUED - 351 WORDS)
