Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (Orpic) has invited companies to bid for the front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for the planned Liwa Plastics Project at Sohar. The announcement is part of Oman’s push to join the surge in Middle East plastics manufacturing. The Liwa cracker and polyolefins complex will be integrated with Orpic’s existing refining and petrochemicals plants at Sohar.
The scope of work in the Liwa FEED tender documents includes: an 800,000 tons/year steam cracker; a 300,000 t/y high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plant; a 500,000 t/y linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) plant; a 215,000 t/y polypropylene (PP) plant; a 40,000 t/y methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) plant; and a 45,000 t/y butane-1 plant.
