Saudi Aramco has awarded Germany’s Siemens a $966.8mn contract to build components for a 4,000MW combined-cycle power plant, one of the largest in the world, in the kingdom’s southwestern province of Jazan.
The region bordering Yemen is underdeveloped but is gradually being transformed into an industrial and refining center with a 400,000 b/d heavy oil refinery being built by Saudi Aramco to serve as what CEO Khalid al-Falih has referred to as “the nucleus of the industrialization” of the southwestern region.
