Yemen has started construction of a new gas-fired 400MW power plant in the country’s eastern Marib province, enough to cover the needs of the capital Sanaa, the country’s electricity ministry says. This is in line with the Yemeni government’s push towards boosting power generating capacity as it continues to suffer from regular power outages, due to repeated militant and tribal-led attacks on its energy infrastructure.
The new plant should be ready by mid-2014, a ministry spokesman last week told local press. (CONTINUED - 868 WORDS)
