Rapidly rising global population is the key driver for sustained growth in GCC fertilizers capacity, according to speakers at the GPCA Fertilizer Convention, organized in Dubai on 22-24 September by the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) and CRU. “Global population is expected to reach 9.3bn by 2050, food production will have to increase by 50%,” warned International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA) director general Charlotte Hebebrand.
The GCC is “a powerhouse in global fertilizer trade,” says Ms Hebebrand. GPCA secretary general ‘Abd al-Wahab al-Sa’dun says GCC fertilizer production will hit 46.4mn tons/year by 2018 with $10bn of projects currently at the construction or planning stage. (CONTINUED - 539 WORDS)
