Sudanese President ‘Umar al-Bashir arrived in the Southern Sudanese capital of Juba earlier this week for talks with his Southern Sudanese counterpart Salva Kiir centered on the ongoing crisis in the South.

Thus far, the effects of the near-four week old conflict sparked by an alleged coup attempt led by former Vice President Riek Machar are yet to spill over into Sudan. But with peace talks in neighboring Ethiopia going nowhere, Khartoum has waded into the conflict by seemingly offering its support to the Southern government in safeguarding its most valuable of resources - oil.
