Turkish contractor Enka has ordered four 126MW gas turbines and a steam turbine from US firm General Electric for a new 750MW combined-cycle power plant it is building at Bazyan in the Sulaimaniyah area of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). The plant at Bazyan is being developed by local firm Qaiwan, and follows three combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plants built by Qaiwan/Enka for the KRG at Erbil, Sulaimaniyah and Duhok.
The KRG is pushing an ambitious power generating capacity expansion despite recent security concerns in the region and continuing fighting with Islamic State (IS) Jihadists, who have overrun large areas of Syria and northern Iraq. (CONTINUED - 288 WORDS)
