Tehran and Moscow have signed agreements for Russian firms to build nuclear power plants in Iran. The plans mainly echo the terms under which the existing 1GW nuclear power plant at Bushehr was built – but will prove controversial, coming so soon before the 24 November deadline for a deal on Iran’s nuclear program.
The main contract between Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI) and Rosatom calls for the construction of two new nuclear plants at Bushehr, under the terms of a similar 1992 agreement. Over the long term, the deal envisages the construction of a total of four new reactors at Bushehr, and four at another Iranian site. (CONTINUED - 156 WORDS)
