Egypt is pressing forward with ambitious plans to expand its gas-fired power generation capacity despite a chronic gas shortage.
Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity has contracted local firm El Sewedy Electric to build two gas-fired power plants worth a combined $706mn. A four-turbine plant at Ataqa near Suez will have capacity to generate 650MW. A two-turbine plant at Mahmoudya on the Mediterranean coast will have 330MW capacity. (CONTINUED - 461 WORDS)
