This week’s gas exporters forum in Tehran was more of interest for Iran and Russia’s attempts to align their positions on Syria.
Delegates from the 12 member and 7 observer states gathered in Tehran this week for the third Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) summit, which concluded on 23 November. While talks focused on issues such as Iran’s planned emergence as a major gas exporter once international sanctions are lifted, and on greater cooperation between GECF members (see p9), arguably the most important developments revolved around talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.ç (CONTINUED - 1079 WORDS)
