Iraq’s Misan and Dhi Qar provinces are looking to increase local control of their oil sector. Adnan Nushi, director of the state-owed Misan Oil Co. told last week’s International Oil and Gas Conference in Misan that he expects that the province alone “will be producing a million barrels of oil per day in the years to come.”
This would represent a considerable increase on current production levels of close to 400,000 b/d. Misan also plans licensing rounds, he says. Iraqi media has highlighted the interest of the Malaysian state oil firm Petronas, quoting a company representative as saying that Misan “lived on a sea of oil.” (CONTINUED - 596 WORDS)
