Western Zagros is one of the oldest IOCs operating in Iraqi Kurdistan, having been present for more than 10 years. The Canadian firm has a 40% operating stake in the Garmian Field and a 40% stake in Repsol-operated Kurdamir.
CEO Simon Hatfield told MEES on the sidelines of the CWC Kurdistan-Iraq Oil and Gas Conference in London on 1 December that Gazprom Neft, the oil-focused arm of the Russian state gas giant, is on target to conclude its takeover as operator of Garmian in Q1 2016. Although the process is proceeding more slowly than hoped, Mr Hatfield is confident that this will facilitate an increase in production from current levels of around 5,000 b/d to 25,000 b/d, although there remains no timeline. This will require the drilling of a new well, after testing at the Hasira-1 well was suspended earlier this year, most likely in Q2 2016. (CONTINUED - 286 WORDS)
