Having forced a 50,000 b/d drop in national output to 970,000 b/d, community leaders in Eastern Libya have issued an ultimatum to Tripoli that if their demands for power redistribution to the east of the country are not met by mid-January they will shut down other fields and export facilities.

Elders meeting on 15 November at Jakhira, an oil production hub in the northeast, issued a list of demands including the relocation of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), the central bank, Libyan Airlines and other key state firms from Tripoli to Benghazi, along with demands that communities in oil producing regions be granted special rights under a new constitution. If the demands are not met, they say they will blockade the region’s oil fields, along with key Sirte basin crude export terminals. (CONTINUED - 716 WORDS)
