Turkish contractor Enka Teknik and Germany’s Siemens have withdrawn 100 workers from the 640MW Ubari power project in Libya’s remote southwest following the kidnapping of three Turkish nationals and a South African, according to the Libya Herald.
Enka withdrew 93 workers on 9 November, five days after Siemens repatriated seven engineers. Four workers on the Ubari plant, all Siemens employees, were kidnapped outside Ubari airport on 3 November. In a statement from the Presidency Council (PC) on 7 November, Turkey’s ambassador to Tripoli, Ahmet Doğan, warned deputy head of the PC Ahmed Maetig that the kidnappings could adversely affect the completion of works.
