The revolving door to Kuwait’s oil ministry has ejected another minister, with Isam al-Marzuq replaced barely 12 months into the job. His replacement, Bakhit al-Rashidi, has been promoted from CEO of Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI) and is Kuwait’s sixth oil minister in five years.
The move was part of a cabinet overhaul completed 11 December, following the previous body’s mass resignation in October in the face of parliamentary opposition (MEES, 3 November). Specifically, parliament had been set to hold a vote of no-confidence on Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and acting Minister of Information Muhammad ‘Abd Allah al-Sabah. Unsurprisingly, he has been omitted from this latest cabinet to be formed by Prime Minister Jabir Al Sabah. (CONTINUED - 1050 WORDS)
