Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) has licensed a number of process technologies from US firm Honeywell for chemicals units to be built at its under-development 615,000 b/d Al-Zour integrated refining and petrochemical complex. KPC’s Canadian petchems JV, meanwhile, has awarded a front end engineering design (FEED) contract to US firm Jacobs Engineering for a 550,000 t/y polypropylene plant in Alberta.
Both moves reflect a KPC strategy which sees petchems as key to its aim of diversifying income beyond sales of crude and oil products. KPC chief executive Nizar al-Adsani says the company believes in “the importance of integration” between refining and petrochemicals and is seeking to “enhance our global presence.” (CONTINUED - 690 WORDS)
