The UAE’s northern emirates plan a 2.4GW gas-fired plant. This would triple their generating capacity but flies in the face of plans to diversify fuel away from gas.
The UAE’s Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa), responsible for power supplies to the four northern Emirates (ie all except Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah) has signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi state investment house Mubadala and Germany’s Siemens to study the technical and financial viability of building a 2.4GW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant.
