Saudi private developer Acwa Power has started building the Noor-4 solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant at Ouarzazate at the edge of the Sahara desert in southern Morocco. The 70MW capacity project is part of Morocco’s Noor PV1 project, which will also include an 80MW plant at Laayoune and a 20MW plant at Boujdour in the Moroccan-occupied Western Sahara.
Acwa says the Noor PV1 tariff is one of the most competitive awarded worldwide “taking into account equalizing factors such as the terms of contract and location and country specific factors.” Economies of scale are a big factor in PV project tariffs: the lowest cost electricity is being offered for increasingly larger projects.
