Saudi Aramco has promoted Abdulaziz al-Gudaimi to senior VP for downstream from his previous role as downstream business director. Mr Gudaimi will be the only senior VP among seven Aramco executives who were appointed as vice presidents at the company’s 10-11 May board meeting.
Aramco’s first appointment of a senior executive for downstream highlights the growing importance of refining and petchems in the company’s outlook. Mr Gudaimi told a recent forum that Aramco aims to hike global gross refining capacity from 5.3mn b/d to 10-12mn b/d and increase its global gross petrochems capacity to 34mn tons/year from 12mn t/y (MEES, 2 December 2016).
