Talks to reunify Cyprus came to a crashing halt on 7 July, ending what was considered the best chance in more than a decade to put an end to the 43-year division of the island.
UN-sponsored negotiations took place in Crans-Montana in Switzerland between the internationally recognized Greek-Cypriot government in the south of the island, the Turkish Cypriot administration in the north, which is only recognized by Ankara, and the island’s three guarantor powers, Greece, Turkey and the UK.
