Pakistan’s recently elected President Imran Khan resisted pressure to boycott Saudi Arabia’s Future Investment Initiative this week because of the country’s “desperate” need for financial assistance. He was rewarded with a financial package worth $6bn.
Since his election in July, Mr Khan has found himself on a sticky wicket and is also seeking economic assistance from the IMF. IMF chief Christine Lagarde met with Pakistan’s finance minister and central bank chief on 11 October, following which she said “they requested financial assistance from the IMF to help address Pakistan’s economic challenges.” (CONTINUED - 385 WORDS)
