Production has begun from the first well at West Delta Deep Marine (WDDM) Phase 9B in Egypt’s offshore Mediterranean with initial 20mn cfd output coming from the Simian well. A total ten wells will be drilled during the 9B phase, sanctioned in April, with drilling due to be completed by the second half 2019. Operator Shell and JV partner Malaysian state firm Petronas say the ten Phase 9B wells will add around 300mn cfd.
In theory this would double output at WDDM, which had been in steep decline – though continued decline at legacy wells will likely pare the gains (MEES, 5 October). Petronas this week expanded its Middle East footprint by re-entering Oman (MEES, 26 October). (CONTINUED - 255 WORDS)
