US firm General Electric (GE) and Germany’s Siemens this week announced agreements with Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity for a 25GW boost to Iraqi power generation capacity, promising an end to the power blackouts that have triggered rioting this summer. Critically, both deals include assistance in raising project finance.
