Egypt is closing in on gas independence after three years of LNG imports. Output hit a six-year high 6bn cfd in June (see chart 1) and will reach an all-time high 6.5bn cfd in September according to oil minister Tarek El Molla.
Key mega-projects from the UK’s BP and Italian firm Eni have been key to boosting output to meet demand. BP’s $12bn West Nile Delta development is currently contributing 700mn cfd, and should add around 600mn cfd by the end of 2019. Eni’s 21.5tcf Zohr field, which only started up in December, is currently producing around 1.2bn cfd. Zohr is slated to ramp up to 2bn cfd by the end of this year and plateau at 2.7bn cfd from mid-2019. (CONTINUED - 801 WORDS)
