An International Maritime Organization (IMO) working group met this week to develop guidelines for implementing a 0.5% limit on the sulfur content of oil burned in ships from 1 January 2020. The cut represents a sharp fall from the current 3.5%.
The IMO says the guidelines will include shipping implementation plans for 2020, the impact on fuel delivery infrastructure and engines of new fuel blends or types, verification issues and control mechanisms and safety implications arising from the blending of fuels. (CONTINUED - 900 WORDS)
