• Egypt’s Suez Canal notched up revenues of $1.484bn in the second quarter of 2018, a record quarterly figure marginally topping the previous record set 10 years earlier as the 2008-09 global financial crisis picked up pace. Crude oil volumes transiting the canal also hit a record high with 2.3mn b/d shipped in Q2 (and a monthly record of 2.47mn b/d in May), although volumes for products and overall oil volumes were slightly down on record levels set in Q4 last year (see chart 1 and MEES, 27 July for full data).
