Though it has taken years to reach this stage, Industry Minister Slim Feriani is happy he has finally got the ball rolling on Tunisia’s proposed renewables revolution. The country’s first on-grid solar project at Tozeur came online in August, around 274MW of solar and wind projects have been awarded, and a further 1GW is in the tendering stages.
Mr Feriani is realistic. He appears to have reevaluated the country’s initial renewables targets after being handed the energy portfolio in September 2018. He has scrapped the 1GW by 2020 goal and now aims for around 1.85GW by 2023 and 3.5GW by 2030 (down from 4.7GW). (CONTINUED - 456 WORDS)
