The Saudi energy ministry’s Renewable Energy Project Development Office (Repdo) announced on 29 January that it is seeking expressions of interest by 14 February for seven solar PV plants to be developed as independent power producer (IPP) projects under Round 2 of its National Renewable Energy Program, which aims to award a total 2.2GW of renewables projects this year.
The plants in the solar tender will have combined capacity of over 1.5GW. Repdo has given no indication of when the remaining 700MW of Round 2 capacity will be tendered or what it will comprise. Unlike Repdo’s two renewables projects awarded to date, the seven projects are mainly in developed areas in the west of the country, close to cities (see table). (CONTINUED - 195 WORDS)
