Saudi conglomerate Sabic has received approval from Germany-based International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) for a process to produce polymers with recycled low quality mixed plastic waste that would otherwise be sent to landfill.
Sabic has been producing quantities of polyethylene and polypropylene at its Geleen plant in the Netherlands using some feedstock produced by the UK’s Plastic Energy at one of its own plants using proprietary thermal anaerobic conversion (TAC) technology (MEES, 14 December 2018). The ISCC certification involves proving that for each ton of recycled feedstock processed, a proportion of the plastics output can be defined as recyclable. (CONTINUED - 141 WORDS)
