Little more than three months on from talking FID on the first 2.5mn t/y phase of the 15tcf Tortue FLNG project on the Mauritania/Senegal maritime border (MEES, 4 January), BP is advancing phases 2 and 3.
Engineering firm KBR announced on 9 April that it had been awarded a pre-FEED contract for the two follow-on phases that are slated to each add a further 3.7mn t/y taking total capacity to around 10mn t/y. US independent Kosmos, BP’s partner and the former operator at all of the major’s five Mauritania blocks, says it expects FID at both Phase-2 and Phase-3 in the second half of 2020 with Phase-2 to start up in 1H 2024 and Phase-3 in 1H 2025 (MEES, 1 March).
