Adnoc has ambitious plans to boost its oil and gas production capacity. With the firm looking to end the UAE’s reliance on gas imports, it is turning to more technically challenging sources such as unconventional reservoirs, ultra-sour gas and gas caps (MEES, 16 November 2018).
Development of oil field gas caps is a relatively new endeavor for oil companies, as BP’s Middle East Chief Michael Townshend said last year “traditionally you say don’t produce the gas until you run out of oil…because you need the gas for field pressure.
