The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) announced on 17 June that its stockpile of 3.67% enriched uranium hexafluoride is increasing and is expected to exceed within 10 days the 300kg limit set out in the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) agreed by Iran and the international community that ended the previous round of sanctions against Tehran.

The JCPOA has been on life support since US President Donald Trump’s unilateral May 2018 decision to exit and revive sanctions against Tehran. AEOI says the stockpile warning is intended to remind the JPCOA’s three European signatories (France, Germany and the UK) of their commitments under the deal, in other words calling on them to return to trading with Iran in defiance of Washington.
