Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) is pushing ahead with plans to supply the 640MW Ubari power plant with gas from its as-yet-undeveloped Atshan field, instead of crude from the 300,000 b/d capacity El Sharara field.
On 11 July NOC said it approved plans presented by its Zallaf Oil & Gas subsidiary to “expedite exploration” at the Atshan field located in the southeast and around 170km from Ubari. “The switch to gas would also save at least 15,000 b/d that could be sold internationally,” NOC head Mustafa Sanalla said.
