Algeria’s electricity and gas utility Sonelgaz says the country’s total electricity generating capacity amounted to 20.96GW at the end of 2018, which represents an 8.5% increase from end-2017’s 19.32GW.
Generating capacity is comfortably ahead of peak electricity demand – although transmission system outages may occasionally be an issue – which actually fell in 2018 for the first time on record: by 5.4% to 13.68GW in 2018 (see chart 1). (CONTINUED - 902 WORDS)
