Saudi state desalination plant operator SWCC has awarded contracts to two consortia to replace two existing multi-stage flash distillation (MSF) desalination plants on the Red Sea coast with more efficient and larger reverse osmosis (RO) plants.
Announcing the awards on 10 December, SWCC said the two RO plants will have combined capacity to produce 1mn m3/d of desalinated water. They will replace the existing 223,000 m3/d Shoaiba 1 plant in Mecca province and the 94,000 m3/d Shuqaiq 1 plant in Jazan province, for a net increase of 683,000 m3/d. (CONTINUED - 358 WORDS)
